Hollering Don't Help

When I was leaving with Cille she was told to be careful and not fall. She said, "I'll be sure to fix it to fall everywhere we're out between now and the time we get back. Shew, sometimes being hollered at all the time don't help."

A Short Documentary- No Thanks, We're Fine: Supporting Families Living With Dementia

Image
This documentary is about caregivers of persons with different types of dementia. It describes the different types of dementia in an easy to understand way and has the caregivers' personal stories. The caregivers offer advice to other caregivers on utilizing community services to help ease the burden. I thought it was an interesting and informative film. I recommend all caregivers to see it. Two thumbs up.

The Summer of May by Cecilia Galante

Amusing at times but also very sad- I blubbered a lot while reading this book. It's the story of how a family who's lost their mother, wife, and daughter struggle to find their way back to living. I liked this book so much I finished it in just a few hours. Highly recommend it. 4 out of 5 stars Disclosure: I borrowed this book from the local library

Get Me Out Of Here

When I came in the door to my grandparents' house Saturday my mom was helping my grandmother with her bath. I sat down and was listening to the conversation they were having. All of a sudden there was a crash (the shower gel had fallen and narrowly missed her foot) and Cille exclaimed: "Shit fire! Get me out of here before you kill me!"

Looking Hip

Mom and my grandparents have a new doctor-they like her but I said she didn't dress like a doctor, Cille agreed she did not. Mom, however, said- "I like the way she dresses, I think she looks hip." I'm thinking she doesn't need to make a statement like that again, it don't sound hip.

More Cille Quotes

Image
These are some of the things my grandmother said while I was at her house yesterday: Cille: I'm hungry. Grandfather: There's a dinner in there Lisa can heat up for you. Cille: You can have that ol'd dinner, me and Lisa are going out to eat. Cille: Give me some money. Bobo (that's what everybody calls my grandfather): I'm broke, I ain't got none. Cille: Well, thank ye, thank ye very much. (He did end up giving her money, you don't say no to Cille) About a relative having diarrhea- Is she going with us? Oh, she has the diarrhea, she can't go she might shit in the car. Mom proclaimed how hateful some people can be. Cille's philosophy on that is: "Who ain't? I can be at times and I don't care to own it."

Turn That Thing Down!

Another phone conversation with my grandmother. She called me last night and of course it involved yelling at my grandfather. Cille: I can't hear you. (to grandfather)- turn that tv down. Grandfather: What? Cille: I can't hear you, Lisa. Turn the thing down. I think he turned it up instead of down. I don't think he knows what he's doing.

I'm The Best Looking

As I was getting ready to leave with my grandmother for her doctor visit my grandfather asked if I was going to take him to the store when I got back. I told him yes and my grandmother retorted back with- "Well, I ain't gonna rush myself." Everything was fine, her doctor was new and Cille seemed to like her- she did take her off some of her medicine and told us that sometimes older people are put on too many pills. This pleased my grandmother and Mom. I could be mistaken but I tend to think people are overmedicated.  After the appointment I told Cille this- Me: The doctor asked how we're related. She said me, you, and Mom looked similar. Cille: Did you tell her how we're connected? Me: Yes. Cille: Well, I thought I was the best looking.

Book Review- Hope For Helpers

Hope For Helpers: Restoring Wholeness To Alzheimer's & Dementia Related Disorder Caregivers (e-book) By: Michael Byrd,  M. Div. Michael Byrd has served as a chaplain for over fifteen years to the elderly and their caregivers. He has also been a facilitator to an Alzheimer's caregivers support group. Byrd has taken the knowledge he's obtained and wrote this short, easy to read book as a guide for caregivers of persons with Alzheimer's and other dementias. Mr. Byrd's book kept my attention and was worded in a way laypersons can understand. His tips are useful and practical. The book is a handy tool for those of us who are caregivers. The only problem I had with it was I kept thinking- these are things I need to do to make my caregiving experience less stressful. It reminded me I need to take care of myself more. I recommend this book for caregivers. Rating: Four out of five stars Disclosure: The book was given to me by the author's wife.

Pomeranian Salad Dressing Is Good

Today was our eight anniversary. Last night we exchanged anniversary gifts when the husband gave me mine he said: "Here's your present, when I bought it I had the girl wrap it. It cost a little extra but it was worth it." I must say, the packaging was lovely, I didn't think a Wal-mart bag could be that fancy. We saw a movie and ate at Wendy's today. What can I say, I'm a cheap date. We saw "Our Idiot Brother"- it was cute and entertaining with good performances. Two thumbs up. While eating at Wendy's one of the dried cranberries in my salald bounced off the tray and ping ponged down both my legs. The old man asked, "What's wrong?" I said, "Nothing, just getting cranberry juice off my legs." I then was telling how good the salad dressing was- Me: This pomegranate vinaigrette is good. Old man: What did you say? Me: I said the pomegranate dressing is good. Old man: Oh, I thought you said the pomeranian dressing was good.

Taking It Easy

Image
Lately, I've been busy running errands, paying our bills, and my grandparents bills, plus going on doctor appointments. So, this weekend I've decided to relax. That includes: * Reading a Leslie Meier cozy mystery- what's more relaxing than reading about murder? Nothing * Watching scary movies- except I wait until my husband is asleep. He's not a fan, plus he cries. * And lastly eating tootsie rolls that I bought for Halloween, they're little and COME ON  they're tootsie rolls. How could I resist? It's the perfect weekend.

Sweet And Sour Pork

My husband has quite a unique way of complimenting me... anyway, I think it was a compliment.   I used to eat French salad dressing but gave it up. It was sweet..but it was also tangy. I like sweet and tangy, like you. You remind me of sweet and sour pork. I'm charmed.
